Eretz Yisrael Time

I really hope I am not the only blogger writing about this.

There were a number of articles today describing the freedoms the Shin Bet is permitting itself in infringing on the rights of citizens.

Utilizing the term “subversive” as their permit, the Shin Bet says it is allowed to use all means such as wiretaps (without a warrant obviously) and other information gathering tools (such as reading your emails before they reach you) to invade your privacy.

No need to prove anything to a judge, no need for “ticking bombs”, just whatever the S”B decides by themselves as being “subversive” is all that is needed.

Great, so not only do we have corrupt politicians running the country, now we have enforcement agencies with no limits, restrictions, or watchdogs, taking on some serious extralegal powers.

A perfect match.

I wish I could meet an Israeli who knew the definition of the word democracy and what civil rights really means.

This isnt exactly something new, they were reading physical letters of "subversives" back in the 1980's.

It is a funny country, but not always in the "ha ha" sense.

DAAT Y-

You are absolutely correct. The Israeli government would never do anything like use it's resources to force it's left wing agenda on us...

Daat Y -- you are a naive fool if you seriously believe that. Apparently, all the Shabak needed was a correct spin in the headlines -- describing their activities as "protection of the Jewish character of the State" instead of the "Democratic character" -- to get someone like you on board.

Those of use with bitter experience know all too well who these measures are used against.

It is outrageous that the only groups complaining about this are a left-wing civil rights group (ACRI) and an Arab group (Adalah).

The right-wing, like always, are going like sheep to the slaughter...

B"H And, now the Shabba"k's job is even easily. In several yishuvim, everyone is already paranoid that their neighbors are working for the Shabba"k somehow, either intentionally or unintentionally. The Shabba"k just has to sit back and enjoy the show.

So sad to see Israel's resources wasted on scrutinizing those who love and defend Israel. Where are those glory days of 1967 when it was just the seditious Arab population who would be correctly listed as subversives, and where Jews weren't afraid to fight for what they believed in. How have we lost our way?
