Gee, how nice.
Olmert has promised us settlers that if we let him peacefully destroy 24 “illegal” outposts he’ll give us a 'temporary stay in execution' for all our other towns until he destroys them too.
Yup, that deal just won me over. But that isn’t the main story today.
The main story is that we are now really seeing the fruits of the Left's manic retreat from Israel’s defense.
I’m not talking about Haaretz’s front page article revealing that Hizbollah definitely has missiles that can hit Tel Aviv. That we all knew would happen soon enough, and who really cares, right?
No, I am talking about the YNET article describing how not only has Israel given up the offensive, it’s also given up on the defensive.
The article exposes how the State and the Ministry of Defense have abandoned the defense of its citizens. Ever since Barak’s rapid retreat from Lebanon they’ve decided that peace must have broken out, so they never put any money into maintaining the automated shelter systems.
Unfortunately that meant that hundred of Northern citizens could not enter their bomb shelters yesterday as Hizbollah missiles fell from overhead.
I’m sure that when Peretz goes up North to visit he’ll share with them his experiences in Sderot where the children aren’t allowed to use the top floors of their schools.
Yup, this state is collapsing and it is only a matter of time before we’ll be able to reclassify our ‘illegal’ settlement as the villages they will be.

Israel isn't worries that Hizbollah might try to hit Tel Aviv. Israel has red line that can't be crossed. Hizbollah knows that if they cross those red lines then Israel will threaten that it knows how to respond.
Oh who am I kidding, I can't even write that line without cracking up.
Actually, the new threat will be, stop hitting us with missiles, or we'll abandon more of our citizens and destroy more Jewish towns in Israel.
Israel's pronouncements would make me laugh if they weren't so scary.
While an Israeli soldier lies injured, his condition getting worse and the North completely disrupted, a senior commander has the nerve to say that Hizbollah fell into our trap!!!!
Or worse, it indicates the attitude of the IDF and government.
They believe Israel has no moral right to premptively defend itself.
Either way - pathetic.
ACtually I must admit that the IDF for the most is all in favor in kicking ass. and it is usually the Govt. that stops them from defending Israel. This is not to say that the Army is not at fault as well, but the "Peace at all cost policy" is the Great Govt.
I think he is offering you a good deal - don't fight now so that it will be easier for you not to fight later - it makes perfect sense. That and the fact that he fears More Amona Syndroms.
OY: I disagree, I don't think Olmert fears another Amona at all.
In fact, I think he's looking forward to it.
re: Letting the IDF go after the terrorists, what do we expect? We've got the world's #1 economic terrorist as a Defence Minister. Uh-oh. Was that incitement?

that's it I am calling the thought police and telling on you to MR. Peretz. He is going to send you to... hmm where do we exile ppl in this country?? oh I know - Tel Aviv!! Ha.
As for Olmert - I agree that Olmert might not care - but his Govt. won't last through that many Amona's As it is the police is not looking all that good - I am not sure they are up to another Blow.
Anyways let him clear out an outpost or 2 - and 10 more will be built to take there place - the Army cannot cove the entire area.
While the IDF general might think that Hizbollah fell into an Israeli trap (sic), the soldiers out in the field described it as the most difficult fighting they ever faced.
"They had snipers fire at us from all directions. I saw the bullets hit the asphalt, and ricochet on us; I knew I had to evacuate the infantry force from there. The battle lasted an hour, while I thought I'll never get out of it, until the last terrorist was hit," Captain Phares Abdullah, a company commander at the Herev battalion, described.
Not a very well planned trap I'd say.
Meanwhile a Gaza mortar landed in the dining hall of an army base in Nachal Oz.

It's more a response to fear and anger over the Haredim then it is a vote of confidence for the Palestinians.
