Eretz Yisrael Time

There is a very important debate going on about the legitimacy of using Wikileaks, as it is after all, stolen material, and it doesn’t directly concentrate on exposing the lack of freedom and human rights in countries that truly don’t have freedom or human rights, but instead seems to be trying to undermine the United States.

On the other hand, the information exposed, shows a reality far different than the narrative one typically comes to hear from the mainstream media.

Significant parts of that exposed narrative show and prove that Israel really are the good guys of the world – despite what some may claim.

In fact, the latest nut job conspiracy theories say that the Mossad wrote and released Wikileaks, and the proof is because Israel looks so good in them.

From the raw data we learn that anything Mearsheimer and Walt say and write can simply be thrown into the toilet (where they belong).

In the latest exposure we learn of the extent of Arab fear of Iran, as they called for a joint Arab-US-UN force to enter Lebanon and remove Hezbollah.

That’s right. The Arabs want Hezbollah dismantled. Not for Israel, but for themselves.

Turkey’s Erdogan has had his secret Swiss bank accounts exposed, perhaps pointing him to the exit sign. And that’s perhaps the reason why Turkey and Israel are trying to reconcile and reconnect, as other players in Turkish politics not only see the path Erdogan is trying to take them down – but why.

Which explains why Erdogan is trying to put a spoke in the wheels by demanding Israel apologize and compensate the IHH terrorists from Turkey.

And of course, President Obama’s Iran-Settlement linkage was exposed as his own personal fantasy and aspiration, and also unconnected to political realities, and that, at least temporarily has put an end to the latest freeze demands.

On the other hand, it could be asked, if the latest demand faile simply because Israel asked for the US demands and promises in writing.

Meanwhile, the question remains, will the Wikileak effect be short term, or can it be something that can actually change the bad aspects of world diplomacy and the poor public treatment of Israel.

More than anything else, it would appear that Israel's (smart) demands to have Obama's promises in writing were the real reason the latest call for ObamaFreeze failed.

There was simply no way that the US would ever put in writing, even a tacit understanding that building in Jerusalem would be allowed, or any construction would be allowed in Judea and Samaria after the retroactive 3 months.

That more than the complete lack of progress from the Arab side cut this idea down.

Netanyahu is now demanding that issues important to Israel be placed at the forefront - such as Israeli presence in the Jordan Valley for security reasons, and not what is just singularly important to the PA for them to unilaterally declare their state (again).

Wikileaks shows Israel and palastine are both victims of global power play.

We NEED proper steering mechanism to survive the global society we created with technology. Transparency/involvement is needed. It's urgent, at this moment our society has an obsolete 200 years old steering mechanism. How can a few wise leaders understand these complex global issues pending ?

Would we have gone to Iraq over Weapons of mass destruction is we were part of the diplomatic cable discussion ?
Better of with more transparency ? Credit Crises / Cable gate shows governments are not so much in control of the global society. Wasn't it work of the press to tell us the truth ?

Can the government be specific what is so threatening, because NO ONE DIED by the cables released. People did die because the same amount of money did go to Foreign Affair as to public health care.

At least the cork out of the bottle. Fact is that secrets are harder to keep anno 2010. Shutting down is naive. Discuss it is the only option.. If democracy fails, the only solution is MORE democracy!. Fill the streets and discuss where the press fails.

the cables are juicy and interesting but the US deployment data (troops, weapons in Europe, etc.) is just to show off they can put secret information out there. if we were upset about Kamm, we need to think twice about these. we got lucky this time, it could go a different way.

and besides as I'm sure you've noticed the left wing spin in the media and a la Clinton+Obama is already "rephrasing" the perspective on the cables - something like doing the "right thing" despite reality (no they don't quite call it reality, more like being the underdog representing the humanist way)
