You know Sukkot is a strange holiday when...

Jews suddenly become carpenters and construction workers, and don't hire out laborers to add on a room for them (on the other hand the ceilings do tend to leak in the rain).

It used to be when you walked around Meah Shearim you'd see unusual (unless you grew up in America) winter-themes decorations being sold for the Sukkah.
